Celebrating the Festival of Lights (with Lighting in the Dining Room)

Posted by Sara

In honor of Hanukkah, the festival of lights, let's talk about the importance of lighting in a room:  specifically, the dining room.

Unlike a living room, family room, entryway or even bedroom where there are multiple focal points to add visual interest, the dining room has few pieces to make a statement.  The dining room is a special animal. Above all else, your key pieces - table and chairs - need to be functional.  This isn't to say that you can't get creative with them but if the design isn't conducive to eating and chatting around the table, then what's the point?  While we encourage our clients to have fun with your dining furniture, we find our energies are best spent on incorporating a fabulous light fixture.  If dining furniture is your little back dress, lighting is the statement jewelry.

 I mean, check these out...

All of these rooms would still be perfectly great dining rooms without that chandelier, but I think we can all agree that it is that special overhead light that makes them spectacular.

Isn't that right Audrey?  Love the jewels...
