When Amy and I decided to go legit we knew two things: 1) What the name of our business would be (Amy and I had fantasized about our design firm 'Gild & Wit' the way cheerleaders fantasize about prom) and 2) the colors for our logo, navy & gold.
I have a serious love affair with navy. I think of it as a renaissance color. It can be preppy in plaid, traditional with wood, modern in lacquer, or country with a little rub-through distressing. It can find a home in any room and if you ask me, it's right up there with grey as a go-to neutral. Just think denim. On a personal note, there's a reason why Walt Disney - or more likely, some fabulously creative and woefully underpaid illustrator - put Snow White in navy blue. Those of us with fair skin and dark hair look like a member of the Addams family when we wear black. Navy has the miraculous ability to bring my look from "deathly pallor" to "peachy porcelain."
As for gold, um hello, it's gold. Gold can swing from formal and regal to fun and playful in a heartbeat. It makes everything better. It's shiny and lovely and makes me positively giddy. In the past few years rose gold and copper have been popping up everywhere in design and fashion and Amy and I couldn't be more excited about it. We love all gold tones - yellow, rose and copper. We don't discriminate. We're equal opportunity employers of shiny.
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, bright copper (!) kettles and warm woollen mittens, brown paper packages tied up with strings, below are a few few of our favorite navy and gold things!
