It's Easy Being Green

Happy New Year everyone!  I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and have recovered from all the festivities.  We here at Gild & Wit are super excited about 2015.  2014 was a wild and crazy year.  Both Amy and I welcomed baby boys and a new career path.  As thrilling as this past year has been, we're pretty sure 2015 is going to be even bigger and better.

Let's kick off the new year with a little green. No, not money (though that can spiff up a room), but living breathing plants. Everyone's all jazzed about Christmas trees and mistletoe in December but too many of us forgo "sprucing up" (hello tree pun!) our living spaces during the rest of the year. Plants, be they wee potted succulents or tall leafy figs, make the dreariest room feel light and airy. What's more, depending on the scale and type of plant, they're an extremely affordable way to accessorize.

Here are a few of our favorite examples of greenery in living spaces. You may notice that we, like so many other designers, have sort of a love affair with the fiddle leaf fig. That's the potted tree on the right hand side in the photo below. Those broad leaves and sculptural branches are a work of art. That said, any green will add some room bling.

I know, I know, a lot of pictures here.  But I just couldn't edit down anymore.

Below are a few of my favorite indoor plants

          1. Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree (Ficus Lyrata)

          2. Fern

          3. Mother-in-law's tongue

          4. Succulents (all of them!  But the Jade plant and String of Pearls are our favorites)

          5. Air Plants
